What do you do when Patti Smith sits down across the subway from you?

You look at her shoes. They look comfortable and tough. They are beautiful well worn men’s boots made for owning the city streets. You take a photo of her shoes to prove you were there.

You notice she’s reading L Magazine and you think to yourself you don’t know enough about L Magazine to have an opinion on weather this would be uncharacteristic of her. You also don’t have any desire to read L Magazine after you write this note so you just dismiss the idea of forming an opinion on this because it would take too much effort to read the magazine.

You notice her ear buds and wonder what she’s listening to. You think whatever it is it must be cool.

You notice her hair. It’s perfectly straggly and shaped. You are reminded you need a haircut.

Oh she’s gathering her things to get off at the next stop. Oh the next stop is your stop too.

Now on the platform you turn to find her. You catch her on her way up the stairs, you almost miss her because she’s so nondescript but she is anything but.
